New Staff Orientation

A total of 554 new elementary staff and 600 new secondary staff attended New Staff Orientation Aug. 12-13 at Cypress Ridge and Cypress Lakes high schools, respectively.

Secondary teachers opened the day at Cypress Lakes while being welcomed by the Spartans’ drill team, cheerleaders and drum line. The staff attended the general session in the auditorium, where they were introduced to the members of the Board of Trustees and listened to speakers including:


  •  Chairita Franklin, assistant superintendent of human resources;
  • Don Ryan, Board president;
  • Dr. Mark Henry, superintendent of schools;
  • Mark Flores, director of payroll and insurance;
  • Dr. Linda Macias, associate superintendent of curriculum and instruction and accountability; and
  • Roy Garcia, associate superintendent of school administration and leadership.

The staff then attended breakout sessions, and after a lunch in the commons closed out the afternoon in teacher content sessions. Secondary teachers reported to their campuses on Aug. 13.

Elementary teachers and paraeducators began Aug. 12 in breakout sessions at Cypress Ridge prior to joining the general session, then dispersed to their campuses for the afternoon.

The teachers returned on Aug. 13 for breakout sessions in the morning and afternoon, while paraeducators reported to campuses.
