Metcalf students celebrate published work in ‘Winter Writing Land’

Metcalf Elementary School students showcased their published work during a Winter Writing Land activity on Jan. 24. To celebrate their stories, poems and other written work, students read other pieces and gave positive feedback.

Metcalf Elementary School students celebrated being published authors and did so on Jan. with a wintery-themed get-together led by Danielle Morgan, third-to-fifth grade reading/language arts interventionist.

The event allowed students and teachers to commemorate the completion of a learning cycle before moving on to the next unit.

"We found that teachers don't always have time to celebrate," Morgan said. "They skip that piece. After they finish a unit, they move on to the next one. But it is very important that you do celebrate and reassure the children that they are doing a wonderful job."

Morgan and teachers decorated the school gymnasium, turning it into Metcalf's Winter Writing Land activity. The theme included winter and holiday decorations and lights, as well as winter-themed music.
