Thornton MS celebrates 25th anniversary


Thornton MS celebrated its 25th anniversary on Feb. 24. Ms. Dixie Thornton, wife of namesake Donald O. Thornton, was in attendance along with other members from the Thornton family.

Attendees were entertained with performances by the Thornton band, choir, orchestra and dance team. Current principal, Mr. Reginal Mitchell, spoke along with guest speaker Mr. Jim Wells. Mr. Wells served as the inaugural principal of Thornton Middle School and shared stories about opening the building, building a campus culture of “Team Thornton” and reflected on his years of service at the Katy prairie campus.



Alumni, former staff, current staff, students and community members were in attendance. Special recognition was given to the five principals who have served as leaders on the campus: Jim Wells, Barbara Crook, Mark McCord, Laura Perry and Reginal Mitchell.

The reception followed allowing an opportunity for old friends to be reunited, many laughs were shared along with hugs, photos, and reflections on memories. Thornton is built on its strong foundation, "WE ARE ONE!"
