With one of their own PPCD students
suffering a heart condition that required multiple surgeries and transfusions,
the staff at Holmsley ES responded with a blood drive.
School nurse Anne Basta, R.N., organized
a blood drive with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center on May 4 at the school.
A total of 34 individuals came out to donate, while 24 were accepted to donate
blood and blood products.
A total of 30 blood products were
obtained, shattering the school’s goal of 18.
“The Gulf Coast Regional Blood
Center staff came out to our campus and did an outstanding job,” Basta said. “I
am so happy with our results and hope to do another blood drive next school
year.”
Holmsley ES staff members (L-R) Quynh
Pham, Rebecca Roebuck, Ana Maxwell and Marisa Rodriguez and (kneeling) school
nurse Anne Basta participate in the blood drive.
