Melanie Johnson-Henderson was born on Jan. 14, 1964
to Willie Owens and Rosie Mae Johnson in San Francisco, Calif.
Melanie spent her entire childhood in San Francisco before
relocating in 1980 to Houston, where she raised
her two children, Alicia and Byron.
On Dec. 9, 2021, Melanie transferred from
labor to a peaceful rest after her journey with ALS. She was preceded in death
by her father’s Willie Owens and Zebedee Griffith, her loving Grandmother Alice
Jefferson, and two uncles Richard and Phillip, and her Big Sister Carolyn Ann
Johnson.
Melanie graduated from Aldine High School, after which she graduated from Letourneau University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Business Management. She spent the early part of her career as an insurance underwriter for American General, but found her purpose in teaching at the K-12 and collegiate levels for Lone Star College, Southwest High School, Nimitz High School and Dekaney High School. She later became a curriculum coach in CFISD's career and technology education (CTE) program, and served seven total years with the district.
Melanie truly believed in helping others and never meeting a stranger as she took friends and made them family.
