Sam Houston State University EdAide Program for Paraeducators' Certification

Sam Houston State University (SHSU) College of Education has announced two special certification options designed specifically for paraeducators in CFISD. CFISD is currently seeking paraeducators who would be interested in attending an informational meeting at ISC. Interested paraeducators should contact Susan Julian at susan.julian@cfisd.net by September 9, 2016.

  • Option One- Certification for Paraeducators with a Bachelor’s Degree
    • Pass the Pre-Assessment Content Test (PACT)
    • Apply to the Post Baccalaureate Program at SHSU.
    • Complete 15 hours of online coursework.
    • Secure a teaching position.
    • Participate in a year long internship (6 hours).
    • Take the Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) test.
    • Apply for Certification.
    • If desired, candidate may complete 9 more hours and receive a Masters of Arts in Teaching.

  • Option Two- Certification for Paraeducators without a Bachelor’s Degree
    • Complete Core Requirements with at least a 2.75 GPA.
    • Apply to the Educator Preparation Program at SHSU.
    • Complete required certification courses with cohort – offered at night, online, or Saturdays.
    • Pass Certification Exams.
    • Either student teach or complete a year long internship.
    • Apply for Certification.
    • Cohorts Offered:
      • EC-6 Bilingual
      • EC-6 Special Education
