| Aspiring campus leaders participate in the Instructional Leadership
Development (ILD) training offered by the staff development department in July. |
During the five days of Instructional Leadership
Development (ILD) training this summer, aspiring campus leaders were shown how the roles of
leaders are expanding to include supports for improvements in teaching and
learning. Dr. Glenda Horner facilitated the training along with Josh Campbell,
coordinator for professional development. Attendees were paired with colleagues
from across the district, participating in cases studies, group discussion and
mock teacher evaluations.
Dr. Horner started the training by sharing her personal
motto, “It starts with me,” distributing wristbands with the motto to all of
those in attendance. Toward the end of 36-hour professional development, Dr. Horner
asked participants to come up with one word that describe how we felt about the
training so far.
“My reply to her was, ‘EMPOWERED!,’” said Cypress Lakes HS
teacher Brian Roberson. “I explained that the information being presented
taught me how to understand the mindset and roles of administrators. I am now
empowered with the tools to return to my campus and assist teachers in the
classroom, as well as share the expectation of educators to contribute to a
positive and effective learning environment.”
Roberson added that the training was an ideal place to
network with other aspiring instructional leaders from across CFISD, as well as
University of Houston graduate students participating as a part of their
cohort.
Other facilitators included Mary Jadloski and Dan
Mcllduff.
