Kahla leadership cadre welcomes Dr. Goree

Members of the Kahla MS leadership cadre welcomed a special guest to its Oct. 24 meeting in Dr. Tonya Goree, assistant superintendent of student accountability and transformation.

Dr. Tonya Goree, assistant superintendent of student accountability and transformation, joins the Kahla leadership cadre for its Oct. 24 meeting.

Dr. Goree spoke to the group, which is comprised of aspiring administrators, on the topic of accountability.

'Me in '23' gives Labay students 5-year outlook

Labay MS eighth-grade students participated in a project called "Me in '23" that allows them to forecast their future success five years down the road. Cypress Falls HS let their feeder campus borrow caps, gowns and diploma covers to take photos of the students as future graduates.

The photos were displayed throughout Labay's main hallway, and the students completed the sentence "After graduation, I plan to..." beneath their images.

"The students are so proud and it looks amazing!" said Lanette Bellamy, Labay MS principal. 

Watkins MS Literacy Initiative

Many Watkins staff members dressed as Diary of a Wimpy Kid characters on the literacy initiative kickoff, Bulldogs Love Books.

Watkins MS kicked off its literacy initiative, Bulldogs Love Books (BLB), by inviting all staff members to dress as a book character or superhero (per the “What is your superpower?” theme). The instructional team united as Diary of A Wimpy Kid characters, and all over campus appearances were made by wide range of young adult novel characters as well as some elementary classics. 

The casts of Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Walt Disney and Dr. Seuss were all visible throughout the day. Watkins hopes to inspire students to be lifelong readers, learners and leaders through this literacy initiative. 

Characters ranging from Harry Potter to The Hunger Games and Dr. Seuss made their presence known around campus during the Watkins MS literacy initiative.

Bears on Patrol at Dean MS

Dean MS students, along with SLC-CCIS Chiterria Stuckett and Principal Chris Hecker, donate bears and stuffed animals to HPD Officer Anthony Valle for the Bears on Patrol campaign on May 20.

On Wednesday, May 20, Officer Anthony Valle, a 23-year veteran of the Houston Police Department, collected bears and stuffed animals that Dean MS donated as part of the Bears on Patrol campaign. 

Bears on Patrol provides teddy bears and other stuffed animals to officers to store in their cars. The stuffed animals are used by officers throughout Houston to comfort young children exposed to traumatic situations. Dean was presented with a certificate for their efforts.
